The National Library of Korea Data Preservation Center, Pyeongchang- South Korea

This design is an adaptive re-use expression of the International Broadcasting Center (IBC), built in 2018 for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. It is contextually inspired from the traditional houses of the Korea called A Hanok (Korean: 한옥, 韓屋) . The derived prominent lines reflect in the undulation of the massing and transcend beyond the individual face, to wrap the entire façade and also form the roof trellis system. While the design inspiration is contextual, built form and material pallete is contemporary. Through it’s strong scale, prominent aesthetics and socially impactful function, this design aspires to become an icon and hub for knowledge for the beautiful city of PyeongChang.
